I firmly believe that when everyone gets a pet dog they should first and foremost have an understanding in positive re-enforcement rather than punishment. Hurting a dog makes them scared of you and that is not wanted by any new puppy owner. You now understand why positive reinforcement is the best dog-training tool to use for you dog and now you may wish to know exactly how to use this tool.
You are in luck, because this article will give you the basics of how to use positive reinforcement as well as some books that you can read to further your understanding of this very successful dog training tool. There are two elements that you need to understand about this tool in order to use it successfully. The two elements are: correct timing and consistency.
Correct timing means that you need to give the praise or reward immediately to the dog upon completion of the desired behavior. Immediately means within two seconds and BEFORE the dog does any other behavior. Consistency means that everyone in the family has to use the same command for each desired behavior. Consistency will reinforce the training and will guarantee that you will not confuse the dog about what is desired. It is equally important to not reward bad behavior in the dog and to be consistent in that every family member understands to reward good behavior only.
If you are trying to teach the dog to not beg at the table and one family member is continuing to feed the dog table scraps under the table, then the consistency will not be there. The dog will be rewarded for bad behavior as well as for good behavior and the dog will not only be confused but will get very fat. Here are some basic tried and true command words to use:
Come: Stay: Sit: Down: Stand: Off: Heel: Leave it: Settle: Watch me:
Although praise works best when using positive reinforcement to train your dog; other items such as food treats, a favorite dog toy or even a game with your dog all will serve well for rewards. Pick the reward that works best with your dog, not all dogs respond well to food treats, some prefer a favorite toy, or commercial foods such as a small square of cheese, cooked chicken pieces or small chunks of hot dogs.
Use a fanny pack or small plastic baggie to carry treats in while training your dog. If you are rewarding the dog with play, make sure to keep the play brief. The new behavior must be rewarded every time in the beginning. This is called, “continuous reinforcement”. It is a technique used to “shape” the dog into making the desired response or behavior.
Sometimes when teaching a behavior that is new to the dog; rewarding may be done as the behavior is learned in steps. An example would be if the dog does not know how to shake hands with you, then you can reward the dog for each step in the behavior. When the dog correctly lifts his paw, reward with a treat. When the dog lifts and hold the paw higher off the ground, give him a treat, then when the dog successfully allows you to hold his paw, and finally accepts the “shaking hands”, behavior reward with a treat. Once the behavior is learned than you can reward the dog intermittently (3 out of 4 times he does the behavior, then half the time, then occasionally).

While I am sure every young girl and boy dream of owning a horse it is usually not a good idea unless owning a horse has been thoroughly investigate and here on the internet is a great place to start. Things to consider would be initial cost, type, size and cost of grazing plus running costs, i.e. extra feed, vet costs, shoeing and incidentals never mind saddles and bridles and the like.
Looking into the history of the horse is a very interesting adventure and well worth the effort. This amazing creature has, over time, not only allowed us to travel great distances but has entertained us made some of us alot of money and given great pleasure as any show pony owner will surely testify to. Though the horse has virtually been replaced by technology in most of its’ former jobs I am sure they will be with us for many years to come and will always be in our dreams and thoughts of generations of children in the future. Thankfully we have enough people interested in the horse as is easily seen through the many forums out there that sharing the joy of them will continue for a long time I am ure.

Generally there are many different types of macaws. They have been classified into six of the many parrot species; Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Propyrrhura, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca.
Some of the most famous in the America’s that are being taken as pets would include the ones in blue and gold, hyacinth, scarlet, green wing and military. It takes a great deal to have a macaw parrot as a pet, as the species naturally grew in wild environments and it takes time for the bird to adapt with a human lifestyle. The bird needs proper raising and training, an issue which must be contemplated when it comes to macaws think carefully before you invest in this type of Parrot.
Most of the macaws come in seasonal basis, so when one wants to order a specific macaw parrot of his liking, the order needs to be done at least several months before it is delivered to your house. You can buy these birds both from bird shops as well as on the internet. They are usually shipped when they are babies, because a macaw parrot may get traumatized by surroundings if it stays too long in its temporay resident therefore I hope you get your Macaw as a baby and it grows up in your home safe and secure.

A baby parrot is truly a darling in terms of wanting your attention. Remember while your Baby is very littleyou may have to socialise it this means, wherever you are you will have to make sure that the baby parrot is with you. Making a long story short – the parrot loves company and noise. Do not leave it too long by itself or away from you – and of course, acclimatize it to the rest members of the family so he or she can bond with the whole family and feel safe and secure.
You will have to patiently train the baby parrot – it is much easier to teach the parrots when they are young (and alone) than when they become full grown This will save you many hours of frustration.
Remember to provide a cozy and extremely safe space to sleep – they will need a lot of care – sometimes as much if not more than any other pet three times its size. The ideal place for it to sleep, would be either a small cotton ball nest-type of a small cage.
The cage should be more to protect him from cats and mice and give him a place for time to relax and grow just like all babies. There is no denying that Baby Parrots will take work and loads of affection and time but it will be all worth it when you can show off your well behaved Parrrot and in the process you will be developing a valued member of your family for all to enjoy.

Bring home a Labrador puppy could be very exciting for the whole family. However, before you do bring the Labrador puppy home, there are a few things that you will need to prepare to make the puppy comfortable in its new home. If you have kids, you should make sure that your kids understand that the puppy would need some time to adjust to its new environment. Note that puppies are just like babies who need to make adjustments and would need lots of care and attention.
Before you bring the Labrador puppy home, you should find a place in the house where the puppy could stay. The Labrador puppy would need a space of its own where it can sleep, eat and play so make sure that you allocate a certain area of the house for the puppy. Find a space in the house, which is not stuffy or hot so that the puppy will not feel very uncomfortable.
Aside from the space, which you will allocate to the Labrador puppy, you should prepare a bed for your dog. Do not use those wicker baskets because puppies love to chew on things and it will not really take them time to reduce the wicker basket into twigs. Besides, there is always some danger that your puppy will swallow some pieces of twigs and choke so avoid using a wicker bed.
A bed like those boxes made of hard wood would be better for your puppy. Very young dogs are not really strong enough to shred boxes make up of hard wood so you can breath easy. For biddings, you may use some cotton or woolen blankets. Cotton or woolen blankets are easy to clean or replace so would not really have much trouble with it.
Aside from a place to sleep, you will need to designate a place in the house where you will groom your puppy. You will need to get a table where you can put your puppy for grooming.
There are few things that you will need to buy for your Labrador puppy. You will need to buy your puppy some supplies such as a basin where you can give it a bath, shampoo, mineral oil or eye ointment, washcloth and towels. When choosing a shampoo, make sure that you get those mild no tear formula so that your Labrador puppy will not get irritated when you put some shampoo on its coat.

Most pregnant Labradors are at their state because of planned events. When you are blessed with a pregnant Labrador, you have to take care of them to ensure they will bring healthy babies.
For instance, make sure that the pregnant Labrador is at the right age. This is important because some dogs are bred accidentally during their first heat. The right age of breeding dogs is when they are at least one year old.
Make sure that you visit a veterinarian regularly, especially if your pregnant Labrador was not examined before becoming pregnant. This will guarantee that your dog is healthy and to examine if the puppies are doing ok.
For pregnant Labradors and other dogs, regular exercise helps in keeping the muscles tone while promoting general health. If your pregnant Labrador becomes overweight or obese, it can be potentially dangerous for both the mother and her puppies.
Vaccination, Parasite Control and Nutrition for a Pregnant Labrador
When your Labrador becomes pregnant, you have to take care of them more and be wary about various issues such as nutrition, exercise, vaccination, parasite control and others.
Pregnant Labradors need extra immunity because it would directly affect her puppies through her milk. For this reason, make sure you have given the necessary vaccinations for your dog. However, it is not recommended to vaccinate pregnant Labradors, so make sure to take her to the vet before breeding.
Another thing to consider is intestinal parasites and heartworms. This is important because pregnant Labradors could pass these parasites on to their puppies. Therefore, before breeding, make sure that your dog receives all the examinations to guarantee that the mother needs to be free of these harmful parasites.
During the first six weeks, your pregnant Labrador will not have the appetite compared to her usual eating amount. However, when she reaches her sixth week, your dog will likely to have a better appetite. During this time, proper nutrition is important because she is now feeding both herself and her puppies. However, since the puppies are pushing against her organs, she will not be able to eat as much as needed in one serving. Instead, you could give her several little meals.
In taking care of a pregnant Labrador, you should double the amount of time and energy in ensuring that your dog is receiving proper nutrition, parasite maintenance, sufficient exercise and diet in order for her to pass a healthy life to her puppies.
